Cyberpunk 2077 gets another surprise release before 2026 ends

Cyberpunk 2077 is adding yet another PC storefront to its increasingly long list, with CD Projekt Red confirming that its open-world RPG will launch on Battle.net before the end of 2026. Six years after its troubled original release, Night City clearly isn’t ready to disappear from view.

The announcement came during BlizzCon 2026, where CD Projekt Red and Blizzard expanded on a partnership that is beginning to stretch well beyond simply selling games through another launcher. Battle.net will offer both the standard version of Cyberpunk 2077 and the Ultimate Edition, while Phantom Liberty will remain available separately for players who initially buy the base game.

What neither company has provided is an exact release date or price. CD Projekt Red has confirmed the Battle.net version is arriving in 2026, but anyone hoping for a surprise BlizzCon launch is out of luck. Pricing will be another detail to watch, particularly given how frequently Cyberpunk 2077 and its expansion are discounted on established PC stores.

The Battle.net release is less interesting as a new way to play Cyberpunk 2077 than as evidence of how aggressively CD Projekt Red continues to extend the game’s lifespan. The RPG originally launched in December 2020 across PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Stadia, before receiving native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions in 2022. Its reach expanded again with Nintendo Switch 2 and Apple silicon Mac releases in 2025, followed by an Xbox Game Pass arrival in March 2026.

That persistence has paid off commercially. CD Projekt Red said earlier this month that Cyberpunk 2077 has passed 40 million copies sold, while Phantom Liberty has reached 15 million sales since launching in 2023. Those numbers make the continued push onto additional platforms easier to understand: even this late in its lifecycle, Cyberpunk remains one of CD Projekt Red’s most valuable properties.

Battle.net is also becoming part of a broader relationship between CD Projekt Red and Blizzard. The companies previously announced Battle.net releases connected to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, alongside a Geralt cosmetic for Diablo 4. BlizzCon brought another extension of that crossover strategy, with Overwatch set to receive content based on Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and its follow-up in 2027. More Witcher-themed Diablo 4 cosmetics are planned as well.

For existing Cyberpunk 2077 players, the Battle.net edition probably changes very little unless Blizzard’s launcher happens to be their preferred PC ecosystem. The more significant story is how CD Projekt Red is keeping Cyberpunk visible while the franchise moves toward its next chapter. Between new storefronts, subscription services, crossovers and more Edgerunners content, the company is making sure Night City remains commercially active long after most single-player games would have faded from the release calendar.
