Xiaomi has introduced the SkyNomad N90 Max in China as a seven-seat electric hybrid SUV priced at 299,900 yuan, or about $44,400 at current conversion rates. Preorders are already open, with the first deliveries expected in September. The company frames it as a movable house, an idea that becomes clearer once the cabin layout comes into view.
When the vehicle is parked, the front seats can turn 180 degrees to face the second row. The center armrest extends into a table, and the rear seats recline into near-horizontal positions with footrests that actually extend. Certain versions add a refrigerator and overhead speakers. Xiaomi says these elements allow the interior to shift between a two-person café, a three-person lounge, a personal studio, or an open play space for children. The flat floor and extended seat rails of the underlying Kunlun architecture make the rearrangements possible without the usual contortions found in conventional SUVs.
The Camping Edition pushes the concept further. A pop-up roof creates an elevated sleeping platform high enough to function as a loft, complete with mounting points for a side tent and extra storage. A detachable table and optional projector complete the setup, turning the vehicle into a self-contained campsite that needs neither a reservation nor a power hookup. The image of rolling up to an overlook, converting the cabin in minutes, and watching a film while children sleep upstairs is the clearest expression of the design brief.
Under the theatrical interior sits a range-extender powertrain. A 76 kWh battery pairs with a 1.5-liter turbocharged generator and a 60-liter fuel tank. Xiaomi claims a combined range of up to 1,705 km, or roughly 1,059 miles, under China’s testing cycle. Pure-electric range is listed at 505 km. Dual-motor versions produce a combined 310 kW, about 416 horsepower. Smaller five-seat N70 and N70 Max variants exist as well, though full pricing has not been released.
The entire series remains focused on the Chinese market for now. Xiaomi intends to begin European sales in 2027, yet there is no confirmation that this particular model will travel with it. That leaves buyers outside China watching a product whose feature list and aggressive home-market pricing feel deliberately unbound by the usual automotive constraints. Pop-up roofs, projectors, and rotating furniture add layers of mechanical complexity that will eventually demand their own maintenance attention. Still, the underlying architecture appears deliberate rather than improvised, suggesting the company has treated the cabin as living space first and transportation second.
What remains is a vehicle that refuses the familiar compromise between passenger capacity and genuine versatility. Whether the formula survives different regulations and buyer expectations elsewhere is an open question, but the statement itself is already clear: an SUV can be designed as temporary real estate rather than simply a larger car.
