FREELANDER will make its formal international debut in Abu Dhabi on September 29, using the UAE as the launchpad for a wider global expansion that begins with its first model, the FREELANDER 8.
The brand will hold its global launch at Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental, where it plans to reveal more details about its international strategy and the overseas-market version of the FREELANDER 8. The UAE is FREELANDER’s first market outside its home operations, putting the Middle East at the centre of the brand’s early expansion plans.
FREELANDER is jointly developed by Jaguar Land Rover and Chery, with JLR responsible for design and what the companies describe as the brand’s premium character, while Chery contributes technology, manufacturing expertise and supply-chain capabilities. It represents an attempt to turn a familiar Land Rover nameplate into a standalone brand positioned around electrified vehicles, intelligent technology and all-terrain driving.
The move into the UAE has been taking shape for several months. FREELANDER confirmed the country as its first international market during the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed and has since established local retail partnerships. Al Tayer Motors will represent the brand in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, while Premier Motors will handle Abu Dhabi.

That dealer structure gives FREELANDER an established sales and aftersales footprint before its first vehicle reaches customers, although the company has yet to provide full UAE pricing, specifications or launch timing for the FREELANDER 8.
Regional testing has also been part of the preparation. FREELANDER says vehicles have been evaluated across desert, coastal and urban environments, with particular attention paid to thermal management, reliability and performance in demanding conditions. Those areas are especially relevant in the Gulf, where high temperatures and prolonged air-conditioning loads can expose weaknesses that may be less obvious in milder markets.
The FREELANDER 8 will be the first major test of whether the revived name can establish its own identity. The company is positioning the model around premium design, connected technology and all-terrain ability for the new-energy vehicle market, but its Abu Dhabi launch will need to provide more concrete answers on powertrain options, range, equipment and pricing.
With the UAE serving as its first overseas proving ground, FREELANDER’s September 29 event will be less about nostalgia and more about whether a familiar automotive name can be successfully rebuilt for a very different market.
