Apple Original Films released the trailer for “Fancy Dance,” a powerful drama set on the Seneca-Cayuga reservation in Oklahoma. The film, starring Lily Gladstone (“Killers of the Flower Moon”) and marking Erica Tremblay’s feature directorial debut, will premiere in select theaters on June 21st, followed by its global debut on Apple TV+ on June 28th.
“Fancy Dance” tells the story of Jax (Gladstone), a young woman raising her niece Roki (Isabel Deroy-Olson) after her sister’s disappearance. Jax’s tireless search for her sister is intertwined with Roki’s preparations for an upcoming powwow. Faced with the threat of losing custody of Roki to her grandfather, Jax embarks on a desperate journey to find her missing sister, uncovering the harsh realities faced by Indigenous women in a colonized world.
The film, a collaboration between Confluential Films and Significant Productions/AUM Group, is a testament to Tremblay’s talent as both director and co-writer, alongside Miciana Alise. With a stellar cast including Ryan Begay, Crystle Lightning, Audrey Wasilewski, and Shea Whigham, “Fancy Dance” promises a moving and thought-provoking exploration of family, identity, and justice.
“Fancy Dance” joins the growing lineup of award-winning original content on Apple TV+, including the Emmy Award-winning comedy “Ted Lasso” and the historic Oscar Best Picture winner “CODA.”
“Fancy Dance” premieres in select theaters on June 21st and globally on Apple TV+ on June 28th.
