Vision Quest nears filming completion, sets stage for 2026 Marvel debut

Marvel Studios’ Vision Quest, a spin-off from WandaVision, appears to be progressing faster than anticipated, with filming now expected to wrap by next month. While the studio has not officially confirmed the project, production designer Will Hughes-Jones recently mentioned an unnamed Marvel series nearing completion, widely believed to be Vision Quest.

The show continues the story of White Vision, portrayed by Paul Bettany, who underwent a transformation at the end of WandaVision. No longer the emotionally tethered partner of Wanda Maximoff, this new version of Vision is more detached and introspective, having just begun to grapple with his identity. According to showrunner Terry Matalas, Vision Quest will delve directly into this character’s personal journey, picking up from his departure at the end of the previous series.

Matalas, known for his work on Star Trek: Picard, acknowledged the creative challenges of working within the tightly-woven Marvel Cinematic Universe. He suggested the narrative will seek a balance between respecting canon and allowing room for necessary narrative adjustments.

The cast for Vision Quest is expanding with several noteworthy additions. James Spader will return as Ultron, the rogue AI who originally helped create Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron. T’Nia Miller is set to play Jocasta, a character from the comics often linked to Ultron as a counterpart or foil. Faran Tahir is also returning as Raza, a character not seen since the original Iron Man film, further tying the series back to foundational MCU storylines.

While Marvel has not announced a release date, the current production timeline suggests Vision Quest could premiere in 2026. This opens questions about how the series might intersect with larger MCU projects like Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars.

Vision has had one of the more layered trajectories in the franchise, evolving from J.A.R.V.I.S., to an android Avenger, to a philosophical enigma. Vision Quest aims to explore these complexities further, focusing on identity, memory, and purpose in the Marvel universe’s ongoing narrative.
