STARZPLAY will premiere the six-episode political thriller Kabul across the Middle East and North Africa on August 14, offering all episodes as a complete box set from launch day.

Created by Olivier Demangel and Thomas Finkielkraut (Class Act, 2023), the series is set in August 2021 during the final days before the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan’s capital. As U.S. and NATO forces prepare to withdraw by August 31, Taliban forces make rapid advances toward the city. Diplomats from the United States, France, Italy, and Germany are forced to improvise evacuation plans for hundreds of Afghans and refugees, coordinating with local police under mounting pressure.

At the center of the story is Gilles, head of security at the French embassy, played by Jonathan Zaccaï (Downton Abbey). Determined to secure safe passage for those bound for Paris, he navigates increasingly tense negotiations. His efforts intersect with the plight of the Nazany family, targeted by the Taliban. Darina Al Joundi (Betloo’ El Rooh) portrays Zahara Nazany, who must decide between escaping the country or staying to keep her family together.

The cast also includes Vassilis Koukalani, Hannah Abdoh, and Gianmarco Saurino. Kabul combines high-stakes political drama with intimate character arcs, highlighting both the logistical and personal challenges of crisis evacuation.
