The Fockers return: a new Meet the Parents sequel in the works

Get ready for another round of awkward family encounters as a new “Meet the Parents” sequel is reportedly in development. Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro are in talks to reprise their iconic roles as Greg Focker and Jack Byrnes, respectively, alongside original co-stars Blythe Danner and Teri Polo.

The franchise, which began in 2000 with the immensely successful “Meet the Parents,” spawned two sequels, “Meet the Fockers” (2004) and “Little Fockers” (2010). While the sequels enjoyed box office success, they received less critical acclaim than the original.

Despite the mixed reception of the previous sequels, the cast expressed enthusiasm for a fourth film during the original’s 20th-anniversary reunion in 2020. Now, it seems their wishes are coming to fruition.

John Hamburg, who co-wrote the original film, is on board to write the script for the new sequel. A director has not yet been attached to the project.

This news comes after De Niro’s recent Oscar nomination for his performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Stiller’s return to acting in the Christmas comedy “Nutcrackers.” Stiller has also been busy directing Apple’s critically acclaimed drama series “Severance.”
