Squid Game season 3 trailer drops, hints at grim final chapter

Netflix has released the first full trailer for Squid Game Season 3, marking the beginning of the end for one of the platform’s most-watched series. Set to premiere on June 27, the final season will pick up after Season 2’s chaotic finale, continuing the saga of deadly competitions, betrayal, and the cost of survival.

Season 3 brings viewers back to the high-stakes world of the Korean survival drama, with returning lead Lee Jung-jae reprising his role as Gi-hun. The character is now locked in a direct conflict with the enigmatic Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun — a figure who was revealed to be a former player in disguise, and whose deception shaped much of Season 2’s plot.

The new trailer, premiered during Netflix’s 2025 Tudum fan event, teases several unsettling developments. A giant gumball machine dispensing red and blue spheres, a disorienting maze, and the eerie sound of a baby crying all hint at the psychological and physical intensity the final episodes will explore. While no major plot points are explicitly confirmed, the imagery suggests the series will stay true to its pattern of twisting familiar childhood motifs into instruments of suspense and violence.

Fans of the Squid Game franchise will recognize visual callbacks to earlier seasons — including stylized sets and elaborate death games — while the trailer also introduces potential new mechanics and contestants. The previous season ended with a post-credit scene hinting at an escalation in the show’s already grim format, including a possible expansion of the animatronic figures used in the games.

Season 3 lands just six months after Season 2’s release — a quick turnaround that underlines Netflix’s commitment to closing out the series at the height of its popularity. With its final arc, Squid Game aims to tie up character arcs and narrative threads that have been developing since its 2021 debut, which became a breakout success for the streaming service and helped solidify the global reach of Korean television storytelling.

As Netflix prepares to conclude one of its most influential originals, Squid Game Season 3 is likely to serve not just as a series finale, but as a commentary on the social and economic themes that have defined the show since the beginning. Whether the finale will offer resolution or simply more difficult questions remains to be seen.
