Apple Original Films has unveiled the much-anticipated director’s cut of Ridley Scott’s historical action epic ‘Napoleon’,now available for global streaming on Apple TV+. This expanded version includes an additional 48 minutes of footage that was not included in the original theatrical release.

Since its initial premiere, ‘Napoleon’ has received widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for three Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design. The film also garnered BAFTA Award nominations in various categories, including Outstanding British Film and Best Special Visual Effects.

The director’s cut, starring Joaquin Phoenix as the iconic French emperor and military leader, offers a fresh and intimate perspective on Napoleon’s rise to power, as seen through the lens of his complex relationship with his wife Josephine, portrayed by Vanessa Kirby. The extended version further explores Josephine’s backstory and features additional elaborate costumes, grand sets, and the previously unreleased Battle of Marengo scene. It also provides greater detail into the final chapters of Napoleon’s life, including an assassination attempt and the ill-fated invasion of Russia.

This release builds on the growing momentum of Apple Original Films since the launch of Apple TV+ four years ago.Apple made history as the first streaming platform to win the Academy Award for Best Picture with ‘CODA’, and also secured the Best Animated Short Oscar for ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’. Additionally, ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ earned 10 Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.

‘Napoleon: The Director’s Cut’ is an Apple Studios production in collaboration with Scott Free Productions. Ridley Scott directed and produced the film, with Kevin J. Walsh, Mark Huffam, and Joaquin Phoenix also serving as producers.Michael Pruss and Aidan Elliott are the executive producers.
