Netflix drops first teaser for final season of Squid Game, premiere set for June 27

Netflix has unveiled the first teaser for the third and final season of Squid Game, confirming that the globally popular Korean thriller will conclude its story on June 27. The brief but revealing trailer sets the tone for what looks to be another grim, high-stakes round of deadly contests—this time following the fallout of a failed rebellion.

Season 2 left off with Seong Gi-hun, also known as Player 456, vowing to dismantle the organization behind the games. But from what’s shown in the new footage, his plan doesn’t go as intended. The teaser opens with Gi-hun awakening inside a coffin-shaped container, surrounded by other players. The deadly competitions resume once again, suggesting that his uprising was either thwarted or manipulated into furthering the organizers’ control. This time, players are divided into groups, family members are forcibly separated, and a crying baby is heard—adding a disturbing layer of vulnerability to an already brutal setting.

Fans also get a glimpse of returning characters. Jun-ho, the police officer who infiltrated the games in earlier seasons, appears to be back on the hunt for the secretive island where the contests take place. Meanwhile, his brother In-ho resumes his position as the enigmatic Front Man, continuing his role as overseer of the games after briefly posing as a player.

Squid Game remains one of Netflix’s most socially charged original series, with its themes of economic desperation, class disparity, and institutional cruelty still at the forefront. The narrative has consistently centered on ordinary people—many of them in financial ruin—who are lured into a deadly arena under the promise of life-changing money. The rules are simple: win, or die trying. In season three, the stakes shift toward systemic rebellion as Gi-hun returns not to survive, but to dismantle the operation that once exploited him.

With its mix of psychological tension, social commentary, and stark violence, Squid Game captured global attention from its debut. The final chapter appears to be doubling down on those elements, pushing its protagonist and its audience into one last brutal descent.

Squid Game Season 3 premieres June 27, exclusively on Netflix.
