Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning trailer teases Ethan Hunt’s last mission

Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt in the new trailer for Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, which hints at a final chapter for the long-running action series. Scheduled for release on May 23, 2025, the upcoming film appears to bring the story of Hunt and his team to a close—at least for now.

The trailer opens with a familiar call to action, suggesting this will be Ethan’s last operation. Highlight reels revisit iconic moments from earlier installments, including the CIA vault descent, the Kremlin explosion, and tense undercover operations. These callbacks underscore the stakes as Hunt faces what may be his most critical mission yet.

Following the fallout from Dead Reckoning, Ethan is now in possession of the cruciform key, a pivotal object connected to The Entity—an advanced AI hidden aboard a submerged Russian submarine. Control over The Entity means control over global systems, making it a high-priority target for multiple factions. Ethan and his team must locate and destroy it before it falls into the wrong hands, setting the stage for a high-stakes international race.

Alongside Cruise, the returning cast includes Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett. New cast members joining the franchise are Hannah Waddingham, Nick Offerman, Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian, Holt McCallany, and Tramell Tillman.

Christopher McQuarrie is once again directing, co-writing the screenplay with Erik Jendresen. Ahead of its theatrical debut, there’s speculation that The Final Reckoning could make an early appearance at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.

Whether this truly marks the end for Ethan Hunt remains to be seen, but Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning sets the stage for a conclusive and action-packed entry in the franchise.
