Is it possible to be nostalgic for something you hated? Nickelback is testing that theory

Sure, their music might be as deep as a puddle and their lyrics as original as a Hallmark card. And yes, their lead singer’s growl could make a kitten purr. But why all the hate for Nickelback? Seriously, folks.

Okay, I’m kidding (mostly). But seriously, the band that’s become the poster child for musical mediocrity is now the subject of a documentary, aptly titled “Hate to Love: Nickelback.” Apparently, there’s more to the story than just endless choruses and questionable facial hair.

According to the synopsis, the documentary “doesn’t shy away from the band’s topsy-turvy legacy.” It even features unexpected advocates like Ryan Reynolds and Billy Corgan singing their praises (or maybe just desperately trying to find something nice to say).

The film delves into the band’s journey, from their humble beginnings in Canada to their chart-topping success with “How You Remind Me.” But, of course, with fame comes infamy, and the documentary explores the personal toll of the internet’s relentless hate campaign against them. After a five-year hiatus, Nickelback is back with a new album and tour, presumably fueled by spite and a burning desire to prove everyone wrong.

So, if you’re ready to dive into the world of musical schadenfreude (or maybe you’re secretly a closet Nickelback fan), head over to Netflix on June 26th to catch “Hate to Love: Nickelback.” Just be prepared for a rollercoaster of emotions, ranging from secondhand embarrassment to the inexplicable urge to sing along to “Photograph.”

After all, isn’t hating on Nickelback just a little bit… cliché?
