The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards, held on Sunday night, celebrated the best in television and saw a historic win for the epic drama “Shogun” and a well-deserved victory for the comedy series “Hacks.”
“Shogun” led the nominations with a remarkable 25 nods and ultimately secured the coveted Outstanding Drama Series award. The series also brought home several major acting awards, including Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Hiroyuki Sanada and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Anna Sawai. With its Creative Arts Emmy Awards wins combined, “Shogun” amassed an unprecedented 18 total Emmys for its first season, making it the most awarded single season in Emmys history.
FX’s “The Bear,” which had the most nominations for a comedy series at 23, did not go home empty-handed. It secured the Outstanding Comedy Series award, and Jeremy Allen White earned the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award for his performance. The series also saw wins for Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series for Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colón-Zayas, respectively.
HBO’s “Hacks” proved its staying power by taking home the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. The series also secured the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series award for Jean Smart and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
Other notable wins included Jodie Foster for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her role in “True Detective: Night Country,” and Richard Gadd for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his work on “Baby Reindeer.”
The ceremony, hosted by the charming father-son duo Dan and Eugene Levy of “Schitt’s Creek” fame, was a night of celebration for television’s finest. It marked the second Emmy Awards ceremony held in 2024, following the delayed 75th annual Primetime Emmy Awards in January due to industry strikes in 2023.
The Emmys 2024 showcased the incredible talent and creativity across the television landscape. From epic dramas to heartwarming comedies, the awards recognized the best storytelling and performances that captivated audiences throughout the year.
