Disney+ is making a significant push into the Turkish content market, bringing a fresh lineup of locally produced originals to viewers across the Middle East. Recognizing the widespread popularity of Turkish series and films in the region, Disney+ is aiming to meet the demand for compelling stories, engaging characters, and high-quality productions.

Leading this new wave of content is the highly anticipated original movie Umami, now available for streaming exclusively on Disney+. Adapted from the award-winning 2021 film Boiling Point, Umami is directed by Emre Şahin (Rise of Empires: Ottoman) and stars Burak Deniz (Maraşlı, Shahmaran) and Öykü Karayel (Ethos). The film is produced by Karga Seven and written by Can Cengiz.

Umami tells the story of chef Sina Bora during one intense night at his upscale Istanbul restaurant. As the pressure mounts in the kitchen, Sina’s personal struggles also come to the forefront, illustrating how a single night can be transformative. The film blends the vibrant energy of Istanbul, the high-stakes world of culinary arts, and Sina’s emotional journey, offering a captivating experience. With each dish served, tension escalates, both in the kitchen and in Sina’s personal life, forcing him to confront buried emotions and the weight of his ambitions.

Umami distinguishes itself through its use of a one-shot cinematography technique, a first for Turkish cinema. This immersive approach draws viewers directly into Sina’s restaurant, allowing them to experience the tension and chaos of the evening in real time.

To ensure accessibility for a broad audience, Umami will be available with Arabic subtitles. This aligns with Disney+’s commitment to providing content that resonates with viewers across the region.

The release of Umami marks the beginning of a new chapter for Disney+ in the Middle East. The streaming service is actively expanding its library of original movies, blockbuster films, and captivating series, offering a diverse range of entertainment for viewers of all tastes. This investment in local productions underscores Disney+’s commitment to the region and its recognition of the growing appetite for high-quality Turkish content.
