Mark your calendars! All eight episodes of the highly anticipated Turkish Original series, Aktris, premieres this Wednesday, May 31st, only on Disney+. Featuring an electrifying performance from beloved Turkish star, Pinar Deniz, fans can enjoy the epic drama which will also be available to binge in Syrian Arabic!
Aktris follows Yasemin Derin (Pinar Deniz), a famous actress in Turkey who has led a double life for years. The only person who knows her secret identity is her trusted driver, Ahmet, and together, they’re dragged into some dark situations. However, when Yasemin starts receiving strange messages from an unknown number, the world she knows begins to fall apart.
Hot on the heels of Aktris, mysterious drama Arayış is set to premiere in June — also arriving on the platform with Arabic dubbing. The series follows Nisan, an unhappy woman living in the big city, as she tries to track down her friend who went missing after attending a healing session together. While on her hunt, she gets sucked into a dubious cult.
In addition to popular series, Disney+ also boasts an exciting variety of Turkish movies to curl up with. If you’re in the mood for a family drama, Özür Dilerim, or My Apologies, will pull at heartstrings. Erkin, played by İbrahim Büyükak, is a lighthouse watchman swimming in debt. His grandfather gives him a way out of his loans, but there’s a catch – he must reconcile with his estranged brother first.
Bursa Bülbülü, starring stand-up comedy star Ata Demirer, will bring plenty of laughs in its wake. Stealing the spotlight as Cengiz, a struggling singer working at a tea garden in Bursa, Demirer’s character sets off to pursue his dreams to release an album, stumbling upon love, loyalty and plenty of obstacles along the way.
Also on the movie front, TV character Recep Ivedik flies a new, thought-provoking banner in this eponymous film, now available on Disney+. Recep, played by Şahan Gökbakar, and his friend Nurullah become champions of the environment when a massive real estate development threatens the forest and village around Recep’s newly inherited home.
The new releases and old favorites join an ever-expanding roster of Turkish Originals on Disney+, which includes crime-thriller series Ben Gri, war drama Kaçis, star-studded comedy Yilbasi Gecesi or New Year’s Eve, and glitzy drama Dünyayla Benim Aramda.
