Brad Pitt’s F1 surges past John Wick 4 at global box office with $460 million

Brad Pitt’s F1 continues to dominate the global box office, surpassing $460 million worldwide after its fourth weekend in theaters. With $155 million earned domestically and $307 million from international markets, the racing drama has now overtaken John Wick: Chapter 4, which concluded its run with $447 million globally. This milestone makes F1 the highest-grossing original film of the year so far.

Produced by Apple and directed by Top Gun: Maverick’s Joseph Kosinski, F1 is reportedly the most successful theatrical release from a tech company, inching toward the $500 million mark. However, with a reported production budget of $300 million, the film has yet to break even based solely on its theatrical earnings.

F1’s strong box office performance comes despite competition from recent releases like Jurassic World Rebirth and Superman, with more contenders on the horizon—including Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Still, the film’s impressive momentum has sparked early discussions of a sequel.

The movie stars Pitt as a veteran racer making a high-profile comeback, and has already outperformed many of the actor’s previous hits, including Ocean’s Eleven. It now ranks just behind Troy, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and World War Z in his personal box office history.

While F1 continues to play in theaters, its long-term value for Apple likely lies in its future on streaming. The company has previously invested heavily in theatrical releases for titles like Killers of the Flower Moon and Napoleon, both of which fell short financially. The success of F1, however, could reshape Apple’s approach to future big-budget titles.
