“Constellation,” Apple TV+’s latest foray into mind-bending drama, is a tour de force. Swedish powerhouse Noomi Rapace commands the screen as Jo Ericsson, a brilliant astronaut whose world unravels after a harrowing brush with disaster in space. The show seamlessly blends sci-fi thrills with the haunting atmosphere of a dark fairy tale, creating a captivating viewing experience that lingers long after the credits roll.

At the heart of this swirling narrative lies a profound mother-daughter bond. Jo’s young daughter, Alice (portrayed with remarkable depth by twins Davina and Rosie Coleman), becomes the key to unmasking the unsettling truth behind her mother’s fractured reality. Their journey echoes classic fairy tales, with a modern, quantum-physics twist that’s as intellectually exhilarating as it is emotionally gripping.

“Constellation” is a testament to Apple TV+’s ability to push genre boundaries. It masterfully juxtaposes pulse-pounding space sequences, reminiscent of “Gravity”, with a creeping sense of paranoia as Jo struggles to make sense of her disorienting life on Earth. Through it all, the show maintains a mesmerizing atmosphere of mystery and foreboding. While some of the show’s mechanics may occasionally feel intricate, the sheer magnetism of “Constellation” ensures viewers stay captivated.

While supporting roles occasionally lack the same depth, Rapace’s unwavering portrayal of the resourceful and determined Jo anchors the story. “Constellation” convincingly answers many of the enigmatic questions it poses, yet leaves room for an even more compelling second season where the boundaries between realities could dissolve yet again.

If you crave intelligent, complex, and visually stunning TV, “Constellation” won’t disappoint. It’s a testament to Apple TV+’s rising status as a haven for truly inventive storytelling.
