Fans of SEGA’s iconic Yakuza franchise were treated to a thrilling surprise at San Diego Comic-Con when Amazon dropped the first teaser video for their live-action adaptation, “Like A Dragon: Yakuza.” The teaser, a tantalizing glimpse into the gritty underworld of Kamurocho, showcases the intricate inking process of Kazuma Kiryu’s legendary dragon tattoo, a symbol synonymous with the series.

But the teaser doesn’t stop there. It offers a whirlwind tour of Kamurocho’s neon-drenched nightlife, introduces key characters from the Yakuza universe, and even features a heart-pounding scene in an underground fight club, a nod to the franchise’s popular mini-games. The video culminates with a shirtless Kiryu, his dragon tattoo on full display, striding towards a frenzied crowd gathered for an illicit fight, setting the stage for an adrenaline-fueled narrative.

When Amazon first announced the show in June, they described it as a “crime-suspense-action series” that delves into the complex life of Kazuma Kiryu, a formidable Yakuza warrior grappling with the consequences of his choices, while upholding his unwavering sense of justice, duty, and compassion. With the series set to unfold between 1995 and 2005,it’s highly likely that the plot will draw inspiration from the original Yakuza game, potentially incorporating elements from the prequel, Yakuza 0.

Mark your calendars, as the first three episodes of “Like A Dragon: Yakuza” will premiere on Prime Video on October 24th, followed by the next three episodes on October 31st. Leading the cast is Ryoma Takeuchi, known for his roles in “Kamen Rider Drive” and “Roppongi Class,” who will embody the iconic Kazuma Kiryu. The teaser also reveals that Kiryu’s childhood friend and pivotal character, Nishiki, will be portrayed by Kento Kaku, recognized for his work in Netflix’s “House of Ninjas.”

This live-action adaptation promises to be a thrilling ride for both longtime fans of the Yakuza series and newcomers alike. The teaser’s captivating visuals and hints of a gripping narrative have ignited anticipation for what’s sure to be a captivating exploration of Kamurocho’s criminal underworld.
