Apple TV+ is set to launch its highly anticipated sci-fi series, “Murderbot,” on May 16th, 2025. The show, based on Martha Wells’ acclaimed book series, stars Emmy Award winner Alexander Skarsgård, who also serves as executive producer.

“Murderbot” tells the story of a self-aware security unit that, despite being designed for protection, harbors a deep aversion to human interaction. Skarsgård portrays the titular Murderbot, a complex character who grapples with its own sentience while yearning for solitude and the simple pleasures of watching futuristic soap operas. The series blends elements of sci-fi thriller and comedy, exploring themes of artificial intelligence, free will, and the search for meaning in an increasingly complex universe.

The ensemble cast includes Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski. The series is created by Academy Award nominees Chris and Paul Weitz, known for their work on films like “About a Boy” and the series “Mozart in the Jungle.” The Weitz brothers serve as writers, directors, and producers under their Depth of Field banner, alongside executive producer Andrew Miano. David S. Goyer and Keith Levine executive produce for Phantom Four, while Martha Wells herself acts as a consulting producer.

“Murderbot” premieres with the first two episodes on May 16th, followed by new episodes every Friday through July 11th. The 10-episode series will be available to stream exclusively on Apple TV+.
