Netflix’s political thriller The Night Agent has wrapped production on its third season, setting the stage for another tense installment in the hit series. While the streaming giant hasn’t yet confirmed a release date, filming concluded in mid-July 2025, and the timeline suggests fans could see new episodes as early as January 2026 if post-production follows the same schedule as season two.
Season three continues the story of Peter Sutherland, played by Gabriel Basso, whose career as a covert government operative grows increasingly complex with each mission. Showrunner Shawn Ryan confirmed that the new season was filmed across several international locations—including Istanbul, New York, Washington D.C., Mexico, and the Dominican Republic—hinting at a broader, more global scope for the series.
However, one major change is already confirmed: Luciane Buchanan, who portrayed Rose Larkin, will not be returning. Buchanan explained that the writers chose to focus the next chapter entirely on Peter’s evolving journey, though she left open the possibility of returning in the future. Ryan echoed this sentiment, noting that The Night Agent was always designed as an anthology-style show with shifting casts and new storylines tied together by the Night Action program.
Returning cast members include Fola Evans-Akingbola as Chelsea Arrington, Ward Horton as Governor Richard Hagan, and Albert Jones as Aiden Mosley. Several new faces join the ensemble as well. David Lyons reportedly plays a retired spy pulled back into service; Jennifer Morrison portrays the First Lady; Stephen Moyer takes on the role of a top assassin; and Genesis Rodriguez joins as a journalist investigating government corruption.
Season two ended with Peter uncovering and dismantling a chemical weapons plot but facing moral fallout from the choices he made along the way. According to Ryan, season three will explore those consequences—both emotional and political—as Peter navigates the repercussions of saving lives at a potentially greater cost. Supporting characters such as Amanda Warren’s Catherine Weaver and Louis Herthum’s Jacob Monroe are expected to return, continuing the arc of the Night Action program and its internal power struggles.
While Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed a fourth season, Ryan has expressed interest in continuing The Night Agentbeyond Peter Sutherland’s storyline, suggesting future seasons could introduce a new protagonist under the same covert framework. Basso, meanwhile, has hinted he may step away after season three, describing the role as both physically and emotionally demanding.
There’s no trailer yet, but if Netflix follows the same marketing strategy as before, fans could see a teaser by late 2025—potentially as early as November.
