DC Studios has released a short teaser for its upcoming Supergirl film, offering the clearest look yet at Milly Alcock’s version of Kara Zor-El in the newly established DC Universe. The footage follows her brief cameo in this year’s Superman movie, positioning Supergirl as the next major theatrical release in the studio’s Chapter 1 slate, titled Gods and Monsters. The teaser precedes a full trailer set to arrive December 11 and is accompanied by the film’s first poster, which frames Alcock’s character with the tagline, “Truth. Justice. Whatever.” It’s a tone-setting line that hints at a more sardonic interpretation of the character than previous screen iterations.

Alcock becomes only the second actor to headline a Supergirl film, following Helen Slater’s 1984 feature tied to the Christopher Reeve Superman era. The new movie, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, adapts Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow — the eight-issue series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. That comic, which reshaped Kara’s story through a more introspective, frontier-style narrative, drew critical attention upon release and was nominated for an Eisner Award. Its renewed popularity surged again when DC Studios first announced it as the basis for the film.

In addition to Alcock, the cast includes Jason Momoa as Lobo, the intergalactic bounty hunter long associated with DC’s cosmic side. Momoa transitions from his previous role as Aquaman in the now-retired DCEU to a new character within the rebooted continuity. Superman’s canine companion Krypto, introduced earlier in the 2025 film, is also set to appear, underscoring the studio’s effort to weave connective tissue across its early lineup.
The teaser’s release strategy mirrors how DC Studios promoted Superman, offering a brief glimpse before unveiling a full trailer. As the DCU continues to establish its identity following years of tonal and structural resets, Supergirl serves as an early test of whether audiences will embrace a character-forward, space-set narrative rooted in a widely praised comic run rather than a traditional origin story.
Supergirl is scheduled for theatrical release on June 26, 2026, with the full trailer arriving on December 11.
