Netflix has released new data on its most-watched films, offering a clear picture of what audiences worldwide are actually streaming. The company tracks popularity based on total views within a movie’s first 91 days on the service, and its latest leader has managed to reach the top spot in record time.
KPop Demon Hunters, an animated musical directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, debuted in June and has already logged 236 million views and 393.3 million hours streamed. That rapid rise makes it Netflix’s most-watched original film to date. The movie’s cultural footprint has extended beyond the platform: it earned a limited theatrical release where it briefly topped the U.S. box office, and its soundtrack climbed to the number two spot on the Billboard 200. It also marks the first time an animated feature has led Netflix’s all-time movie rankings, with more growth likely before its 91-day window closes.
The rest of Netflix’s Top 10 is dominated by big-budget productions and star-driven projects. Red Notice, a $200 million action comedy with Dwayne Johnson, Gal Gadot, and Ryan Reynolds, sits at number two with 230.9 million views and 454.2 million hours. Despite being widely criticized by reviewers, the film remains Netflix’s most expensive original production and has a sequel in development. Close behind is Carry-On, Jaume Collet-Serra’s thriller starring Taron Egerton as a TSA agent coerced into smuggling a weapon on a plane, which reached 172.1 million views.
Other top entries include Adam McKay’s Oscar-nominated satire Don’t Look Up (171.4 million views), Ryan Reynolds’ time-travel adventure The Adam Project (157.6 million), and Sandra Bullock’s breakout horror Bird Box (157.4 million). More recent hits like Back in Action, Leave the World Behind, and Damsel also secured spots in the top tier, alongside the Russo brothers’ spy thriller The Gray Man.
The rankings show Netflix leaning heavily on spectacle, recognizable stars, and genre-driven projects to sustain its global audience. While critical reception varies widely, the numbers demonstrate the platform’s ability to turn a mix of tentpole blockbusters and offbeat experiments into worldwide talking points.
Looking ahead, Netflix is banking on more high-profile titles, including The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a spinoff from Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood featuring Brad Pitt, along with Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew from The Chronicles of Narnia and a live-action Gears of War project. Each signals that Netflix intends to continue investing in both prestige-driven adaptations and blockbuster-style entertainment.
All films from the current Top 10 remain available to stream, though whether any will hold their positions for long remains uncertain given how quickly new releases have begun to climb the charts.
