Idris Elba returns in Apple TV’s Hijack season two, premiering January 2026

Apple TV’s tense drama Hijack will return for its second season on January 14, 2026, with Idris Elba reprising his role as corporate negotiator Sam Nelson. The new season, created by George Kay and Jim Field Smith, shifts from the confined chaos of a hijacked airplane to the underground tunnels of Berlin, where a commuter train and its passengers are taken hostage. The eight-episode season will debut globally with two episodes on premiere day, followed by weekly releases through February 25, 2026.

The series, produced by 60Forty Films and Idiotlamp Productions, continues under Field Smith’s direction. Executive producers include Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, and Tom Nash for 60Forty Films, with Kay and Field Smith overseeing the project for Idiotlamp. Alongside Elba, returning cast members Christine Adams, Max Beesley, and Archie Panjabi will join an expanded ensemble featuring Christian Näthe, Clare-Hope Ashitey, Lisa Vicari, Toby Jones, Karima McAdams, and Christiane Paul.

Season one of Hijack established itself as one of Apple TV’s most-watched thrillers, drawing critical praise for its tight pacing and Elba’s commanding performance. The show earned a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and regularly appeared on Nielsen’s Streaming Originals Top 10 list, cementing its status as one of the service’s standout titles.

The first season remains available to stream on Apple TV, which continues to build a catalog of original dramas, comedies, and documentaries since its 2019 launch. While Apple often touts its growing awards portfolio—including Ted Lasso, The Studio, and CODA—its strategy with Hijack reflects a focus on international settings and serialized suspense designed to keep global audiences engaged.

With the next chapter moving from the skies to the subways, Hijack season two looks to sustain the show’s intensity while expanding its scale and geography. For viewers, it promises another run of contained tension and real-time storytelling—this time under the streets of Berlin.
