Paramount has signed a major deal with Activision to bring Call of Duty to the big screen, marking the first live-action film adaptation of one of gaming’s most successful franchises. Announced in Dubai on September 3, 2025, the partnership puts Paramount in charge of developing, producing, and distributing a feature-length film based on the blockbuster video game series.
The move brings together Paramount’s track record with high-octane blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick and Activision’s cultural juggernaut, which has sold more than 500 million copies worldwide and dominated U.S. sales charts for 16 consecutive years. The goal is to create a film that captures Call of Duty’s signature mix of cinematic action, gritty realism, and expansive storytelling while reaching beyond the existing fanbase to new audiences.
David Ellison, Chairman and CEO of Paramount, said the project is personal for him. “As a lifelong fan of Call of Duty, this is truly a dream come true,” he noted. “We’re approaching this film with the same disciplined, uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided our work on Top Gun: Maverick. Our mission is to deliver a cinematic experience that thrills longtime fans while captivating a whole new generation.”
Rob Kostich, President of Activision, emphasized that the film will stay true to what has made the franchise resonate for over two decades. “With Paramount, we have found a fantastic partner to take that visceral, breathtaking action to the big screen in a defining cinematic moment,” he said. “The film will honor and expand upon what has made this franchise great in the first place. Our shared goal is simple: to create an unforgettable blockbuster experience.”
While no details have been revealed about which era or storyline the film will adapt—whether the World War II roots, the Cold War intrigue of Black Ops, or the modern conflicts of Modern Warfare—the announcement alone positions the project as one of the most ambitious video game adaptations yet.
Paramount’s involvement comes as Hollywood continues to lean on gaming IP for box office appeal, following the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Uncharted. For Activision, now under Microsoft’s ownership, the Call of Duty film marks a significant expansion of the franchise into mainstream entertainment.
