Snapchat has been quite busy with their Story section of the app, what with verifying “Official Stories” (something Sheikh Hamdan has) Snapchat has also released an update recently that that makes its chat feature a lot more interesting. Now, when viewing a snap in someone’s story, you can swipe upward to send that user a direct chat message. The original poster receives a notification and can hop into a private message thread tied directly to the original snap.
The update implements an easier way to start a conversation with another user based off something they snap to their story, whereas before users weren’t quite sure which snap any incoming message may be replying to, was the phrase “omg so c00l xD” in reply to your snap story of your cat or the snap story of your new inflatable Jar Jar Binks? Snapchat’s chat feature has been around for a while, but has not seen much traction in an app that is primarily video and photo based, however with the new update a better avenue for discussion should be opened within the app.
Another feature that has rolled out with the update is the ability to use snap lenses with the rear-facing camera of your smartphone. Snap lenses, for those of you who have never heard of it, is a feature that lets you layer interactive animations over your face.
