Yota Devices unveiled a limited edition white version of their dual-screen YotaPhone 2 which we reviewed back in December 2014. In addition, come May 30th, all YotaPhone devices will be updated to a new version of the Android 5.0 Lollipop-based operating system geared to take the e-ink display use to the next level. The new YotaPhone offers upgraded stamina, better outdoor visibility, provides one touch access to needful apps and is a window of self expression thanks to the Always On Display on the back of the device.
The Always On Display apps are now powered by YETI 2.0 (Yota E-ink Technology Integration). Following feedback from over 5000 YotaPhone 2 users, Yota has introduced a number of widgets allowing users to further customise the Always On display with images from social networks, important news and sports updates, messages and information that is accessible faster and easier.
Amongst the new widgets, users can now pull full-screen social media apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram onto the YotaPhone’s second display, the motion will safe battery life as the e-ink display uses up less battery. In addition, Gmail accounts can now be monitored via the Always On display. The YotaCast will enable users to project their gallery onto the second screen, and thus showing off their personality on the back of the device.
Here are some other highlights of widgets and apps Yota is introducing. YotaMessages allows for a whole new level of expressive interaction. The moment you write a text message, it’ll be translated into an image and sent along to the other party.
The YotaFitness app will help users reach their fitness goals easier and faster by continual reminders and messages displayed on either screen without the need of any extra gear..
Fans of sports will enjoy the YotaSports widget, powered by EuroSport the app lets users keep up to date with their favourite sports team by displaying latest scores, live commentaries on matches and plenty more.
Yoga is also introducing accessories, including bumpers for the phone to protect the device as well as bring some colour to the device.
But the highlight is arguably the wireless charger which enables users to charge their YotaPhone simply by placing it on top of the battery without the need of wires. Priced at AED229, the 4000 mAh juice power bank should be a great addition to people on the go.
Both the black and the new white YotaPhone 2 are available now at Etisalat outlets, Jumbo Electronics and other local retailers across the UAE for AED 2,555.
