Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island has teamed up with a NASA subsidiary to develop an elevated, high-speed transport system which will connect the island’s entertainment and hospitality areas. The announcement stated that a partnership agreement with Skytran was signed to develop the Middle East’s first “personal rapid transit” (PRT) system.

In the partnership, Skytran will develop a two-person jet-like vehicles that transports people on magnetic elevated strips. The new system will connect Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, Yas Waterworld, Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit, and will eventually link to Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Innovation remains at the heart of what we do on Yas Island. While we continue to build world-class destinations and expand Yas Island, it is imperative that we are able to implement an urban transportation solution which is not only energy efficient but also adds another level of excitement to our visitors  experiences, said Mohamed Abdulla Al Zaabi, CEO of Miral, Yas Island developer.
