Xiaomi have long since made a name for themselves by selling great smartphones at affordable figures, in an effort to garner a wide following with which to expand their ecosystem. It seems the time has now come as they’ve just unveiled their latest flagship phone at the Mobile World Congress: the Mi5.
While details have leaked in the past few weeks, there have been conflicting reports about the specifications of the Mi5, prompting me to follow their livestreamed launch event closely. Here are the specs of the Mi5:

That’s right, the Mi5 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820, their latest processor, with 4GB worth of LPDDR4 RAM helping it run smoothly. Storage wise it will have 128GB worth of flash memory. According to Hugo Barra, the Vice President of Xiaomi, when they ran the AnTuTu 6.0 benchmark app on the Mi5 it scored a staggering 142,084; the 3D benchmark scored 50,000.

The camera on the Mi5 sounds phenomenal, with 16 megapixels to its name, 4-axis Optical Image Stabilisation (the iPhone 6 Plus only has 2-axis OIS) and the Sony IMX 2988 sensor along with the Qualcomm Spectra powering the lens.
The display is a 5.15 inch QHD IPS display that has a Max. brightness of 600 nits.

The Mi5 packs other great features as well, such as a home button, fingerprint sensor, NFC, Quick Charging 3.0 and 4G+. Keeping it running is a 3000mAh battery. It will also be available in 3 colours: black, white & gold.
The most important piece of information is of course the price. The Mi5 will ship in 3 versions, each with a separate price. The Mi5 Pro, which has a Snapdragon 820 powering it (2.15 GHz) and has a 3D ceramic back cover, will roughly cost AED 1,500. The Mi5 64 GB version, which has a Snapdragon 820 powering it (2.15 GHz) and has a 3D glass back cover, will roughly cost AED 1,300. The Mi5 32 GB version, which has a Snapdragon 820 powering it (1.8 GHz) and has a 3D glass back cover, cost around AED 1,125.
