Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi announced its first laptop, the Mi Notebook Air. Sounds familiar, right? Well, the Mi Notebook Air is a Windows laptop that is set to compete with Apple’s MacBook.
The full-metal body laptops comes in 13.3-inch and 12.5-inch versions and run on Windows and feature full-HD displays, a type-C USB port and two USB 3.0 slots. The 13.3 inch model is powered by Intel Core i5 Processor with 8GB DDR4 RAM and have 256GB PCIe SSD, and an SSD slot with an NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU. The 12.5 inch model includes an Intel Core M3 processor with integrated graphics, 4GB RAM and 128GB in expandable SSD.
Apple built some great laptops, so did home-grown Lenovo. But the top laptops on the market are either light in weight or good in performance. We want make something that is both light and super-fast, said Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s co-founder.
The company directly compared its new product with Apple’s MacBook Air.

The 12.5-inch model weighs 1.07kg while the 13.3 inch model comes in at at 1.28kg. The starting price is around $540, for the 12.5-inch model and $750 for the more powerful version. The laptops will be available in China from August 2nd, with no confirmation yet on global release.
