Pushing boundaries and pushing you to your limits is what XDubai is all about. XDubai encourages this all-action adventure as the city comes together to experience the thrill of an active life. By partnering with the top local and international sports brands, XDubai take Dubai’s sports scene to the next level and become the adrenaline capital of the world.
One of those adventures is an Emirates A380 flying with two wingmen who, by the way, aren’t seated in the comfort and safety of planes, but are flying gracefully through the air with jet engines strapped to their backs.
The Emirates A380 and the Jetman Dubai team recently took to the skies of Dubai for an extraordinary formation flight which showcases just how far aviation has come. The formations were conducted over the Palm Jumeirah and the Dubai skyline with the Burj Khalifa in the background.
The Jetman duo are Vince Reffet and his mentor Yves Rossy, who holds the title of being the first man in the history of aviation to fly with a jet-propelled wing. In 2008 Rossy AKA ‘Jetman’ came to the world’s attention with a spectacular flight over the English Channel nearly 100 years after the first crossing by air and now he’s moved his operations to Dubai.
While the formation flight looked effortless on film, painstaking planning and meticulous collaboration with an intense focus on safety drove all efforts. The carefully choreographed aerial showcase involved the world’s largest passenger aircraft flying at 4,000 feet in two holding patterns. The A380 aircraft was then joined by the Jetman Dubai duo, experienced pilots and operators of the smallest jet propelled wing, who were deployed from a helicopter that hovered above the aircraft at 5,500 feet. The duo conducted formations on both sides of the aircraft and joined to one side thereafter before breaking away.
This is just the latest in a series of performances brought about by XDubai, a company dedicated to making Dubai the top choice for people aiming to break the Guinness World Records. They already have a wide plethora of such records under their belt including the Highest Base Jump (828 metres) and the longest breath (11 minutes and 54 seconds) amongst others.
Here’s the behind the scenes and preparation video as well.
