If you’re the type of person who refuses to upgrade to Windows 10 and as a result have to constantly disable updates that install it, you may find your update issues gone forever, and with it the annoying “upgrade to Windows 10 icon”. That’s because Microsoft is planning to end its free upgrade to Windows 10 offer on July 29th.
“Details are still being finalized, but on July 29th the Get Windows 10 app that facilitates the easy upgrade to Windows 10 will be disabled and eventually removed from PCs worldwide. Just as it took time to ramp up and roll out the Get Windows 10 app, it will take time to ramp it down.”
Windows 10 aims to be the last OS by the company, which will instead focus on sending out updates for the platform; one such major update landed late last year in November. Another update is expected this Summer in the form of a “Windows 10 anniversary” update.
However until July 29th, users can contend with seeing the Windows 10 upgrade notification, though there are plenty of third party apps out there that people have used to disable it. It is also likely that Microsoft will attempt to force the update through a critical update as it has tried to in the past.
