WhatsApp has apparently begun a slow rollout of its new voice-calling feature. Android users in India are reporting to have received the new update.
One Reddit user has posted screenshots of a WhatsApp voice call in use, and said that he was able to access the new feature by installing WhatsApp build (2.11.508) on a Nexus 5 running Lollipop.
The image shows a new tab labeled ‘Calls’, in addition to the existing ‘Chats’ and ‘Contacts’.
The rollout has not yet been officially announced by WhatsApp and appears to work based on invites. According to Patil, the Reddit user who posted the screenshots, the feature gets switched on when a user who already has it active calls another user using the same build.
