WhatsApp users on Android beware, Bas Bosschert, a Dutch security consultant has found that WhatsApp chat logs saved on an SD card of an Android phone can be read by other apps due to the way Android allows sharing of data between apps.
Check out the initial claim posted on his blog.
Since that statement, WhatsApp have released an update for Android, but Booschert again claimed with a followup blog post, that the vulnerability is still present even after the App was updated.
A spokesman for WhatsApp said that Bosschert’s claims “have not painted an accurate picture and are overstated” in a statement to Tech crunch.
Apple’s iOS isn’t affected, since the apps are sandboxed and generally not allowing apps to access outside data.
