It looks like WhatsApp is still the most used multiplatform messaging service in the world. The company has announced that it has hit the 1 billion-user barrier.
We are proud of this milestone, and we’re humbled by the extraordinary ways all of you have used WhatsApp, the company said in a blog post.
WhatsApp was able to add 100 million users in last five months. In February 2014, WhatsApp was acquired by Facebook for a whopping USD 19 billion.
Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg congratulated co-founder Jan Koum and his team.
WhatsApp’s community has more than doubled since joining Facebook. We’ve added the ability for you to call loved ones far away. We’ve dropped the subscription fee and made WhatsApp completely free. Next, we’re going to work to connect more people around the world and make it easier to communicate with businesses, he said.
Having said that, WhatsApp still faces the challenge of generating revenues till this day.
