We’re familiar with trailers, short clips that spoil an entire movie without you having to pull out your wallet and pay for popcorn. Then came the teaser trailers, even shorter clips that showed you the most climactic moments of an entire movie in about half a minute. Yet it seems our capabilities to retain information is sadly diminishing as “trailer teasers” have started debuting. Yes, teasers of a trailer, of a movie.
But enough about that because the trailer teaser I’m talking about is for the Warcraft movie.
The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink of war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: Orc warriors fleeing their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people and their home.
I wrote about the premise behind the Warcraft movie a while ago: it will revolve around titular character Orgrim Doomhammer, Warchief of the Horde near the end of the First War and for the duration of the Second War. Interestingly the movie is also set to show the heroes on both sides of the war, making viewers empathize with all the characters. Orgrim himself is not the only main character.
And when we thought that our sense of euphoria couldn’t grow any bigger, Duncan Jones, the director of the Warcraft movie stated that he sees the movie as the first in a trilogy of movies. Having worked closely with Chris Metzen, who’s involved with the storytelling at Blizzard, the two laboured on the Warcraft movie so that it could set the stage for two (hopeful) sequels.
What fascinates me most about the Warcraft movie is that it is of the high fantasy genre, a genre that has not seen much success movie wise other than the Lord of the Rings movies. Whether the Warcraft movie can live up to its high expectations remains to be seen.
The full length trailer will be released on Friday
