UberEats India

When people think of Uber, they think of the cab-hailing app, but it’s not the only service the company provides. UberEats has seen success in countries and cities around the world ever since its debut back in 2014. The app has since widened the number of cities it operates in, adding Dubai to that list just last year. And now the company seeks to enter a much bigger market: India.

The company first announced its intention of entering the Indian market back in January but the announcement was scarce of details:

“I am incredibly excited about bringing UberEATS to India. This is a significant investment, it spans multiple cities and regions, and it has the potential to change the food industry – with the push of a button – in one of the most vibrant food cultures in the world.”

– Allen Penn, Asia Pacific’s head of UberEATS, in January 2017.

According to the Economic Times, the management of UberEATS team will be different from the ridesharing app at national and city levels. Furthermore, city general managers have been hired by the company, along with city-level restaurant operation managers and branding & sales heads. The hiring has taken place across six distinct Indian cities: Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Mumbai, Chennai and Gurugram. However, the end of the second quarter will only see the app launched in one of the six cities; it will be introduced to the rest before the year is over. The head of Indian arm of UberEats will be Manan Javeri. He will in turn report directly to Allen Penn.

“We are currently in the process of setting up a team dedicated to the UberEATS business in India, this includes internal transfers, primarily experts in marketplace management as well as external hires. From a hiring perspective, we are looking at bringing some of the best talent in the restaurant industry, including successful entrepreneurs, people with experience in logistics management and various other aspects of the food delivery business.

– Allen Penn, Asia Pacific’s head of UberEATS.
