Uber is making it easier for customers to see how much they’ll pay for a ride before they book, but is also making it more difficult for them to know if there’s any surge pricing in effect.
The company stated that the new version of the app will require customers to enter their destination before requesting a ride and will show them the exact fare they’d have to pay. By adopting this approach, Uber is factoring in the surge pricing in the quote with a “Fares are higher due to increased demand” note when a surge is in effect.
Uber said it had tested the new approach in some states in the US and India, and is aiming to roll out the new feature to all customers in the next few months.
