In an over-crowded world for sure, and most metropolitan cities suffer from congested traffic, in and out of rush hours. Anyone who has to commute to Sharjah from Dubai knows very well what I am talking about.
Although many governments urge residents to carpool, it is often just more convenient to drive your own car than ask people for favours. Uber wants to tackle this challenge with uberCOMMUTE, a new carpooling service that will pilot in Chengdu, China, before rolling out to the rest of the world.
How it works is very similar to the current Uber setup from a passenger’s perspective. As the driver, you pick your destination and will be notified with potential passengers along your route who are traveling in the same direction. The driver can then choose to pick them up and share the trip costs.
It definitely a nifty service, especially for long commutes or, for example, you’re going to a concert and won’t mind sharing with other fellow concert goers. It has a lot of potential in Dubai in case the service ever makes it here.
