Twitter’s latest attempt at growing its platform sees it trying to incentivise Periscope, the video livestreaming app the company acquired back in 2015. In a blog post, the Periscope team will be offering a VIP program to its users, where VIPs can have the opportunity to get recognized in the community, reach new viewers, and collaborate with other great broadcasters.
As the “on-the-go” video livestreaming scene becomes more saturated with the likes of Facebook Live, Live.Me and even the likes of Instagram and Snapchat stories, it’s becoming increasingly hard to stand out. However, Twitter has smartened up by mimicking features available on another incredibly popular streaming service: Twitch. Much like Twitch, VIPs will be sorted into different tiers that will be foremostly classified by the number of followers a person has, with more followers unlocking extra features. There will be three basic tiers: Bronze, Silver, and Gold. The benefits and minimum requirements of each tier can be seen at the bottom of the article. The minimum requirement to be a VIP requires streamers to have 10,000 followers on Periscope with an average of 200+ total live views per broadcast. The broadcasts themselves have to be streamed at least twice a week.
“To recognize some of the top broadcasters who’ve been essential in helping shape our community, we’re rolling out the Periscope VIP Program. As a member of the VIP Program, you’ll have access to benefits that will help you grow your audience, increase your opportunities to collaborate with other broadcasters, identify you as a VIP broadcaster and equip you with tools to help you continue to create and share your live experiences.”
Currently, if users meet the requirements they can sign up on the Periscope website.
