Even though Twitter was created a decade ago on the 21st of March 2006, it’s a social media platform that is still misunderstood by many. While it’s been adopted by everyone from A-list celebrities to the Pope to HH Sheikh Mohammed to keep in touch with followers, it’s still a platform that’s shunned by most web surfers. Not that that has slowed down Twitter. Over the past decade it has garnered over 300 million active users, gone public and is credited as the place that adopted the hashtag as a means to group together people with similar conversations.

To commemorate the momentous occasion the official Twitter account tweeted out a thank you note in the form of an two-and-a-half minute ad that showcased what makes Twitter unique, from clips and posts from major events that established Twitter as a platform for breaking news, to social media activism with hashtags like #blacklivesmatter and #BringBackOurGirls.

Of course Twitter and the video sharing service it acquired “Vine” were also leading the charge when it comes to viral videos and gifs and as a result, spoofs of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” take up a segment of the video along with Ryan Gosling not eating his food.
The video ad ends with Twitter going over the 140-character limit before adjusting the last line, forming the hashtag #LoveTwitter
and staying true to its 140-character limit, a feature people speculated would be removed in favour of longer tweets; it has since been confirmed that Twitter has no intentions of raising the character limit.
