Twitter introduced ADHD – and to a lesser degree, eloquence – to the masses via its 140 character limit. Today, however, the company has announced that it’s dropping this character limit in direct messages.
The move is probably to have users better engage through direct messages, and will be useful for people who like to chat without giving away their phone numbers to use apps as WhatsApp. More importantly, however, is that Twitter DM can now be leveraged for better customer service for accounts that engage with their users in these ways. Instead of limiting responses to emails or 140 characters; both users and customer service accounts can handle requests and complaints in a more effective manner.
