The year in review, by Twitter

GEEK DESK

We’ve had a lot of year-in-review tribute videos, from the Google Zeitgeist, to YouTube rewind, and even DJ Earworm’s Yearly mashup of songs serves as a tribute to to all we have experienced over the past 365 days in this world we live in. While Google Zeitgeist and YouTube rewind still haven’t been released for the year of 2015, Twitter has already revealed their Year In Review.

By heading over to 2015.twitter.com users can view a video tribute to al events that happened this year, including The Paris Attacks, interplaced with tweets of support from various users. The hashtag and movement #BlackLivesMatter is also featured, again with powerful tweets displayed as the tempo of the music rises. And of course, the humanitarian efforts of various countries and agencies are shown through the Syrian Refugee Crisis, with a tweet by J.K Rowling capturing the viewer’s attention.

However, not all is glum in this video; the “is it blue/white or gold” dress bonanza was also featured, having wrecked the lives of millions across the globe and setting an unprecedented rate of colorblindness check ups. Earlier this year #IStandWithAhmed showed us the levels of solidarity that can be achieved in the face of persecution and racism; it is also featured in the Twitter year-in-review video.

But that’s not all offered by the aforementioned link, users can see what was the most influential tweets or hashtags to make it to prominence this year, New Voices is another section, featuring the latest set of verified accounts to join Twitter this past year, including @POTUS. Most Retweeted is another page, featuring tweets from members of the band One Direction and President Barack Obama. The last section of the website shows us the Top Trends of the year, spread out over multiple sub sections such as music, news, tech, etc.
