The Nextbit “Robin” is on sale for $300 on Amazon

Cloud computing is something people are still on the fence about. Yes having all your selfies and videos about cats stored in a virtual space instead of on your phone saves some storage space for you, but it is perturbing of not having it physically on your phone. But one company has embraced the Cloud, making it a selling point for one of their smartphones. I’m talking about Nextbit’s “Robin” smartphone which just went on sale for a week on Amazon.

The Robin started out as a Kickstarter campaign (nearly everything innovative starts out as a Kickstarter campaign nowadays) back in 2015 and if you missed out backing it then you can get it now for $299 on Amazon. That’s the same price as backing it back in 2015 was and it’s $100 cheaper than it’s normally available for on Nextbit’s online store.

The Android phone sells itself as a “cloud-first” smartphone; it automatically backs up your photos and apps to Nextbit’s Cloud extending the device’s 32GB to more than 100GB. Furthermore the smartphone is customizable letting you choose your own carrier, unlock your bootloader and load a custom ROM.

The Amazon sale ends on the 10th of May.

UPDATE: An unconfirmed report states that the Robin’s LTE standards may not be compatible with UAE carriers. We’ve reached out to NextBit for confirmation and will follow up with more information.
