Leaked images of the upcoming Moto X by Lenovo have surfaced over the past couple of days but now another leaked report indicates that the new series of products might get modular add-ons for the smartphones, just like the LG G5. It seems that rebranding Motorola also caused a number of backdoors to be left open, letting leaks spring everywhere.
However unlike the modular add-ons for the G5, the next flagship Moto will have modular backplates; the modular add-ons for the G5 slid into the bottom of the phone. As seen in the leaked stills, the patch of small circles on the back of the phone are apparently magnetic pins and serve as the connection between the Moto X and “Amps” — the Lenovo equivalent of LG’s “Friends.” The magnetic pins serves to provide a tight, secure connection whilst also allowing for easy removal; something not as easy when it comes to the G5.
According to the report from Venture Beat, there are 6 “Amps” in the work, which include everything from an extended battery pack, to a camera grip with flash and optical zoom, stereo speakers, and even a pico projector. That’s already a more diverse selection of add-ons than the G5 currently offers.
