The rumours about the lack of a headphone jack on the iPhone 7 has incurred the wrath of many Apple fans who are not yet ready to delve into the realm of exciting possibilities a smartphone without a one may provide. While Apple have remained mum on the topic, not even denying the rumors, fans have already launched a petition to bring back the headphone jack that, at the time of writing this, has already exceeded 200,000 signatures.
But sources familiar with 9to5mac report that Apple is developing a complete new set of Bluetooth earphones, intending to launch them as an accessory for the iPhone 7. The new earphones are said to be completely and truly wireless, without even a cable connecting the left and right earphones. The premium earphones will be launched under the Beats brand, the headphone maker Apple acquired in 2014.
Apparently one of the features the in-development accessory will include is a noise-cancelling microphone system, enabling the use of taking phone calls and talking to siri, without Apple’s in-line microphone and remote. Customizability will be offered in the form of different sized earbuds so that all of us can enjoy role playing as Jack Bauer.
To lend these claims even more substance is the fact that Apple have trademarked “AirPods”, a possible name for the accessory. However it should be noted that these “AirPods” are considered a premium product, since wired headphones will still be able to connect to the iPhone 7, albeit through a lightning connector.
