Tesla Starts Project Loveday Contest for Fan-Made Advertisements

Project Loveday #2

When a new Porsche or Lamborghini comes out, you can expect a few dozen advertisements to accompany them. When a new Tesla comes out, we mostly rely on Tesla’s own press releases with some added information gleaned from the Tweets of Elon Musk. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from creating their own advertisements for Tesla, something that has spurred Musk to create the Project Loveday contest.

The amount of fan-made ads inspired a letter from a young fan by the name of Bria asking Elon Musk to run a contest looking for the best fan-made advertisement. Soon after the letter went public, Elon Musk promised that they would do it, and they did.

Thank you for the lovely letter. That sounds like a great idea. We'll do it! https://t.co/ss2WmkOGyk

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) March 2, 2017

“10-year-old Bria Loveday sent us a letter and suggested we hold a video contest. We thought that was a great idea (thanks, Bria). Over the next couple of months, we will collect videos from around the world as part of the “Project Loveday” video contest. If you’re interested in submitting a video, simply create it, keep it to 90 seconds or less, send us a YouTube link along with your entry form, and wait to see if you’re one of our top winners.”

The competition is open until the 8th of May, giving entrants plenty of time to figure out their pitch. Entrants will have to create a 90second video, upload it to YouTube and then attach the link to the video along with their application.

As for the prize, Musk is matching the same suggestions in the letter by Bria. The top 10 winning submissions will be featured and shared on Tesla’s social media channels. Meanwhile, the top 3 winning submissions will receive additional promotion across social media channels. Lastly, the winner with the top winning submission will be invited to and introduced at a future Tesla product launch event. Tesla will pay for reasonable travel expenses and accommodations for 2 people for 2 nights. What the event is, is currently unknown.

On the 29th of May, the Grand Prize Winner will be sent an email notification with instructions on how to claim the prize. The prize must be claimed by June 2. All other winners will presumably also get notifications. While only 10 videos will be featured, you can find the catalogue of entries over here. With Tesla expanding to more countries and regions, including the UAE, this form of crowdsourced advertisement is sure to help keep the company at the forefront of everyone’s mind.
