Less than 24 hours after Tesla unveiled the $35,000 Model 3 electric car it racked up more than 230,000 preorders and reached 276,000 preorders by last Saturday. The revelation that many people are actually interested in electric cars and that it isn’t exclusive to a niche group of people is splendid but it has thrown a wrench into the production of the cars. So how does Tesla keep up with this demand? By asking other companies for help of course, with LG being one of them.

The company has been tipped by Tesla to create the 15-inch landscape touchscreen that dominates the Model 3’s cabin, instead of the supplier who had done the same for the Model S and Model X. This is great news for LG as most of its display business has been relegated to TVs, PCs and mobile, markets where it is hard to stand out amongst the competition; this move on the other hand could set LG up as a connoisseur of automotive displays.
With LG making the displays it’s not sure who else Tesla has reached out to in order to gain a helping hand with making the Model 3 as the Gigafactory is limited in its capabilities. The preorders have already topped $10 billion according to Tesla.
