SwiftKey, the popular input method for iOS and Android, has rebuilt its app for Android, allowing for better predictions and as a result, smoother typing. SwiftKey, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the app, is a keyboard app for iOS and Android that is powered by artificial intelligence which enables it to predict the next word the user is about to type. Pretty cool eh?
With the new upgrade that’s based on neural networks, SwiftKey intends for predicted words to be based on greater context.
Achieving this was no easy feat, however; the company fed their app a million phrases so as to train it to recognise phases it has never seen before. Furthermore, the latest iteration of SwiftKey also understands synonyms and similarities in words, helping it refine its predictions. The updated app only features US English and UK English language models for its new keyboard, though it will most likely update to the neural network for its other language models. Well, that’s my prediction.
The update has been in works for a while now, with a beta app going live last October for a select users to test.
