Sony Mobile CEO and President, Hiroki Totoki has put an end to repeated rumours that the company is planning to sell its mobile division.
In an interview with Arabian Business, Totoki said “will never ever sell or exit from the current mobile business”.
The rumours started in 2014 when Sony mobile made a huge loss, but the CEO explained that the loss mainly came from “the write-off of the goodwill of (Sony’s) impairment asset” . “We bought back 100 percent of it. And obviously that price was high,” he said.
Totoki also said that the selling of their VAIO division was what led to speculations in the first place. Smartphones are now an interconnected part of the modern life, which is why the company is still looking to remain a player in the smartphone market despite “severe” competition, he added.
