Sony also made a big splash at IFA 2014 and unveiled new products, here’s a round up of what was announced:
Xperia Z3
The Sony Xperia Z3 is a 5.2 inch device which runs on a quad-core 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 chip with 3GB of RAM and Adreno 330 graphics with a 1080p displays. The device is powered by a 3,100mAh battery.
The Z3 is thinner and lighter than the Z2 with now a high quality metal frame to complement the glass front and rear panels.
Some of the key features of the Z3 include the highest waterproof rating (IP65/68)3, a 20.7MP camera with 1/2.3” “Exmor™ RS for mobile” image sensor, new 25mm “G Lens” and world’s first smartphones with ISO 12800 sensitivity5 for superior photos, even in low light.
The Z3 is also the only smartphones with PS4™ Remote Play2, which means you can now use your device as a remote screen to connect to and control your games on PS4.
Xperia Z3 compact
The Z3 Compact is simply a smaller version (4.6-Inch display) of the Xperia Z3, with the same processor and graphics chip. The screen resolution remains at 720p and the RAM stands a 2GB.
The dual glass panel design also makes its way onto to Z3 Compact, with the panels slightly sticking out the front and back of the device, giving it a unique feel all to itself.
Xperia E3
The E3 is marketed as their cheapest LTE phone. Comes in with a 4.5-inch 480 x 854px display, quad-core 1.2GHz processor, and Adreno 305 graphics. A 5MP/1.3MP camera packages is present, 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of internal storage, all powered by a 2,330mAh battery.
Xperia Z3 Tablet compact
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact is one of the thinnest (6.4mm) and lightest (0.6lbs) 8-inch tablets on the market. the Z3 has a 1080p display, 3GB of RAM, waterproofing, an 8.1-megapixel rear camera and a 2.2-megapixel front shooter and run on a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 processor. The company claims that the tablet should deliver 13 hours of non-stop video playback.
The Z3 also has the PlayStation 4 Remote Play capability.
SmartWatch 3 & SmartBand talk
The SmartWatch 3 is running Google’s new platform, Android Wear. The watch comes with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.6-inch screen and Sony’s IP68 waterproofing. Other features include 4GB of storage, 512MB of memory, NFC support, GPS and a 420mAh battery.
Sony’s next announcement after the Samrtwatch, the SmartBand Talk. The SmartBand Talk has a 1.4inch e-ink always-on display to save battery life and make it more legible under sunlight. The wearable also lets you make calls with the help of its microphone and speaker.
The SmartBand packs the usual accelerometer and altimeter to monitor your physical activity and hooks up to devices running Android 4.4 with help of Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy.
